Based on the successful premier pizza contest held annually since 1998 in Australia, the Global Pizza Challenge has been brought to South Africa in 2010 by Rice Paper Publications in Partnership with Fonterra.
The contest was set up to encourage and support the independent pizza sector and to encourage new ideas and innovation.

Whether the pizzeria is a stand-alone restaurant, takeaway, part of a hotel, suburban outlet or in a trendy part of town – the competition is open to all individual pizza makers who care about their product.

The Challenge
All pizzerias are invited to send in their recipes.

A nominal entry fee is required to be paid by each contestant.

The recipes are then assessed by an internationally recognised chef for originality, balance, creativity and excitement factor.

All qualifying finalists are invited to attend the final, where they will be required to cook 4 pizzas in any of the four following categories:

  • Chicken or meat
  • Seafood
  • Vegetarian
  • Specialty or dessert.

One contestant will be chosen as the South African winner of the Global Pizza Challenge.

Awards & Prizes
Each Finalist will receive a Certificate of Participation for each completed judged pizza.

Each finalist’s participating pizza outlet will receive an official Global Pizza Challenge – South African 2010 finalist window decal.
